Raman Singh

Raman Singh is an Indian politician and a member of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) He served as the second Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh from 7 December 2003 to 11 December 2018.

In 1999 he became the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, a position he held til 2003. He was named as the president of BJP in Chhattisgarh and led the party to victory in the 2003 state elections.

Singh has earned nationwide popularity for several public welfare schemes, such as the public distribution system (PDS), which is the distribution of major commodities such as wheat, rice, sugar, and kerosene, through a network of fair price shops. He also started the 'Startup Chhattisgarh' scheme, which is aimed at encouraging the startup culture and offering several incentives for startup entrepreneurs . His tough stand on Naxals, along with promotion of digital technology and interest free agricultural loans, have made him a popular figure among the people of Chhattisgarh.

In August 2017, Chief Minister Raman Singh completed 5,000 days as the Chief Minister of the state.

The 2018 assembly elections in the state were conducted in two phases on November 12 and November 20. The Chhattisgarh Assembly Election results would be announced on December 11.
