Albayzín

Albayzin, the Muslim Quarter, is one of the most fascinating districts of Granada. The entire district, reminiscent of Granada’s Moorish past, is actually a UNESCO Heritage Site. Unsurprisingly the entire area resembles an open-air museum. The narrow alleys of Albayzin are bound to take you back in time. The cobble-stoned streets are lined with photogenic houses and traditional gardens.
It is easy to spend an entire day acquainting oneself with Albayzin. Make sure you explore Plaza del Savaldor, which is home to a church. The church is built on the site of Albayzin’s mosque and a part of the old mosque can still be seen one end of the church. If you want to see a functional mosque, you could stop by at the Mezquita Mayor de Granada. The mosque is frequented by Granada’s Muslim population. Don’t forget to visit Mirador San Nicolás, a viewpoint that offers spectacular views of the city’s prime jewels—the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Alhambra.
