Another university city that is a convenient day trip away from London is Cambridge. Cambridge is easily accessible from London and regular trains and buses are available if you don’t want to drive. The University of Cambridge is definitely the highlight of a visit to the city.
Start at Queen’s College. The college building is gorgeous and stretches on both sides of River Cam. The two parts of the building are linked by the renowned Mathematical Bridge, which was apparently designed by Isaac Newton. Move on to King’s College—the King’s College Chapel is one of the most popular attractions in Cambridge. The choir is excellent and you should definitely try to stay for service. If you’re a bibliophile, you will enjoy Trinity College’s Wren Library. The University of Cambridge is also home to a number of museums including the Fitzwilliam Museum, The University Museum of Zoology, and The Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences. Don’t forget to sample punting in River Cam. It involves rowing a boat by pushing a pole to the shallow riverbed and can be a lot of fun. Opt for a private boat if you want a romantic punting experience.
