Emmental

Does the name Emmental remind you of the luscious goodness of Jerry’s favourite holed cheese? Well, there is a charming town in Switzerland that is responsible for this delicious addition in our lives. The Emmental valley is surpassingly beautiful and is replete with mysterious tales from the days of yore. With wonderful hiking, cycling, golfing and panning opportunities, travellers head over to this paradise to relax and live the good life. The region is also home to the Museum of Folk Culture, the Zither Museum and the Franz Gertsch Museum, all of which are illustrations of Swiss art, culture, history and traditions.
There are wooden bridges and towering castles for you to swoon over and then of course, there are dairy factories with regular exhibitions where you could go up-close and personal with the manufacturing process of cheese, Switzerland’s gift to the rest of the world. A train journey from Bern to Burgdorf, the largest city in the Emmental region, is merely 15 min long and you should check the SBB website for tickets. Alternatively, the drive from the capital via the A1 motorway is picturesque and roughly 30 min long.
