The first mention of Grindelwald brings fleeting images of one of the most famous dark wizards from the Harry Potter world to mind. However, only the most seasoned travellers will know about the existence of a tiny village in the Swiss Alps by the same name. At 1034 m, Grindelwald is a part of the canton of Bern and has a population of around 2000. It was, in fact, one of the very first tourist resorts in Switzerland. The views of the north face of indomitable Mount Eiger along with the Wetterhorn and the glaciers of Oberer and Unterer are the best from this mountain retreat and it serves as a wonderful ski resort during the winters. It also doubles up as a great base for those looking to visit Jungfraujoch. The meadows of Grindelwald are as lush as they could possibly be, the air is fresh and crisp, the wine flows in plenty and the fondue is ever so luscious.
Pro Tip: Dine at Onkel Tom’s Hutte if you want to try the best wood-fired pizzas in the world. Make sure you take a look at their endless wine list. You will be amazed.
