If you take the cable car Ngong Ping 360, it would usher you to the highlands of Lantau Island in half the time it would take to reach by road. While seated in the glass-walled gondolas, behold the stunning views of the South China Sea and the magnanimous Lanteau peak. On reaching the Ngong Ping Station, visitors climb 268 steps to visit the famous and gigantic Tian Tan Buddha statue known to be 34 metre tall. Devote some time in knowing the age-old Buddhist tradition in the Po Lin Monastery, and also feasting the eyes on its immaculate gardens, kitchen and the inner temple. If you still have time at hand, the tiny, fishing hamlet of Tai O, located just 6.5km east on the island’s coast, is a stopover you would appreciate. A bus bound towards this village picks passengers regularly from Ngong Ping. Tai O would surprise you for its picturesque waters, white dolphins and the stilt houses. For this reason, the village has earned the moniker - The Venice of Hong Kong.
