Stroll around the king’s summer residence – A good way to spend quality time is to stroll around the Nymphenburg Palace. Known as the "Castle of the Nymph,” the Nymphenburg Palace was a summer residence of former rulers of Bavaria. Located just west of Munich, the grand palace was constructed in 1664 in Baroque style by Prince Ferdinand Maria. Later rulers expanded the estate to its current glory. The impressive facade of the palace lies at the centre of a massive 460 acres park flanked by gardens, ponds, streams, fountains, and statues. The Grand Hall or Steinerner Saal is the highlight of the palace. The vivid fresco of Helios in his chariot, accompanied by other gods adorns the richly decorated ceiling. Other attractions inside Nymphenburg Palace include Ludwig I’s Gallery of Beauties and the chamber where King Ludwig II was born. The museum inside the palace houses the finest porcelain collection, and other regal paraphernalia, including the royal carriage. Walk around the grand estate and marvel at the aristocratic lifestyle of the Bavaria's electors. The expansive panorama of the palace viewed from the front is truly amazing.
