With a massive crab signboard that is one of the most photographed aspects of Dotonbori, Kanidouraku Dotonbori-Honten serves, no prizes for guessing, some of the best seafood in Osaka. And this ferocious crimson sea-creature display is symbolic of Kanikodaru’s signature dish—the most succulent crab you will ever taste. While dining at this establishment, you can savour this sweet, melt-in-the-mouth meat just the way you like—in the form of a barbecue, a beautifully presented sushi dish, some sashimi or a serving of good old tempura. While a lot of people consume crab meat steamed or grilled, depending on their preferences, a raw variant is also available and is reserved for adventurous eaters. Try it if you can.
With as many as three branches in the Dotonbori area, Kanidouraku is popular with tourists and the staff can therefore speak fluent English. Reserving a table is a wise idea as it can get very crowded. The interiors are simple and compact with Tatami style tables and the fact that this place overlooks the Dotonbori Canal only adds to its charm. The portions are huge when compared to other Japanese restaurants and the prices are pretty reasonable. You will certainly have a whale of a time.
