Umeda Hagakure

Yet another fantastic Udon place in Osaka, Umeda Hagakure might be a dwarf amidst the highest of high-rises but manages to emerge tall and proud with its fare. With around 12 seats surrounding its modest counter, the restaurant is tiny and rather congested and has no pleasant ambience to offer. What it does have in copious amounts, however, are delicious handmade Udon noodles that are served in bowls of piping hot broth. Guests are provided sides of finely chopped green onions and radishes that perfectly compliment the soup. You also have the option of gorging on crispy shrimp tempuras and fish cakes if you do not fancy Udon. The ingredients used are very evidently the freshest one can find.
The chef is a humble and friendly man, who is always ready to teach his customers a thing or two about preparing and devouring these thick noodles. The presence of a photo menu is extremely helpful for those who are unfamiliar with Japanese. You would have to look around the basement tunnels of the Osaka station in order to get to this nondescript eatery but the delectable food and reasonable prices are worth all the effort.
