Palampur is a small town nestled in the foothills of the Dhauladhar range. Unlike Shimla and Manali, it is an offbeat destination away from the touristy crowd so there are no fancy restaurants dishing out a wide range of delicacies; but there are a few restaurants that offer simple yet delicious food. Palampur is famous for its traditional ‘Kangri dham’ that is served in marriages. In dham, the dishes are prepared without onion and garlic, and instead curd is used along with a perfect blend of spices. Cooking is done in copper vessels and the preparation and cooking starts a night before the feast. If you are in Palampur and you get a chance to visit some marriage, do try dham. While you can have a fine dining experience at The Lounge and Surabhi, Neugal Café and Sai Gardens offer a beautiful view besides scrumptious food. If you want to try local cuisine, go to Suryansh Bhojnalaya some 20 km from Palampur. They serve delicious Himachali thali. Here’s a list of some of the popular restaurants in Palampur.
