The Tirolean town of Kitzbühel has a surprisingly extensive variety of skiing, despite its low altitude of just 760 m. With four main ski areas, there is a wide choice of ski routes, with intermediates favouring the Hahnenkamm area, where skilled intermediates may attempt the famous World Cup Downhill run. Advanced skiers typically prefer the off-piste skiing on offer; though beginners are reliant on good snow lower down to have any choice of routes on which to progress. However, the low altitude can result in poor snow, though snowmaking is increasing. The lift system is no more than adequate, though there is an impressive choice of attractive mountain restaurants. Kitzbühel is also famous for the town's quaint and medieval feel, with the predestrianised streets and attractive architecture providing a relaxed feel. The picturesque town also offers a vast selection of shops gives the resort great appeal to non-skiers. Despite this calm feel, the resort has a great aprés-ski, with bars and clubs appealing to the younger clientele, whilst there are quieter and smarter places for those no longer wishing to participate in the bustling nightlife.
