Musee Ariana

A Splendid array of colours – located close to the Palais des Nations, Musee Ariana is a Swiss Museum of Ceramics and Glass. Built in late 19th century, the museum houses private collection of the Swiss art collector Gustave Revilliod. The Neo-Classical building of the museum contains around 20,000 objects representing the ceramic history since 12th century. The exhibits have been acquired not only from Switzerland but also from other parts of Europe, the Near East and Far East. The permanent exhibition includes ceramics vases, plates, little table decorations, cups, bowls, and glass lamps. The paintings and illustrations explain in detail how ceramics was prepared and how objects were created. Ancient Stained glass windows and some of the ceramics from the Islamic world are the highlights of the collection. Spend an afternoon at this luxurious edifice, and admire the details of antique glass production techniques. Whether you like ceramics or not, the colourful displays of daily objects will leave you awestruck.
