It is an unforgettable experience to sled across the Rocky Mountain playground as a team of excited dogs whisk you across the frozen landscape. It is hard to beat the landscape of towering mountains and blue skies, coupled with friendly dogs and incredible guides. Just outside of Calgary exists a plethora of options for dog sledding, and any local or visitor to Calgary should definitely put this on their list of things to experience once in a lifetime. All of the reputable companies located outside of Calgary will start with an introduction to the dogs and instructions where you will learn safety, commands and the history of the sport. The duration you want to spend on the trails is up to you, although we suggest no less than 2 hours to get the full experience. While some companies offer campfires and hot chocolate stops along the way, there are others that offer you the chance to actually drive the sled or put their focus on your comfort and allow you to sit back and relax while they do all the work. Some of the favourite and most popular companies in the area include Howling Dog Tours, Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours and Mad Dogs & Englishmen Expeditions.
