Souk Jara is a weekly market that sprouts every Friday. This is a very popular flea market, which was established by JARA or the Jabal Amman Residents Association. As the name suggests, it is located next to the Rainbow Street in Jabal Amman and makes for a unique shopping experience.
Lots of activities are also held here. Movie screenings, concerts, local bands, magic shows, talent shows and some impromptu programs add their energy to the atmosphere here. Music also adds its bit to the liveliness of the place.
While walking down this street, one finds merchandise, which is commonly not found in any of the stores. Artisans come to sell their wares directly to the customers and souvenirs, paintings, hand made accessories, so many different things can be found here. Its great fun to walk through the market and enjoy the local food at one of the many stalls there.
Souk Jara is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. during summer and stays shut in winter. However during the period of Ramadan it opens from 8 p.m. till around 2 a.m. in the morning. Haggling is a common feature in the market. So don’t forget to negotiate before you buy any of the displayed stuff. This Friday market is a complete package of shopping, entertainment and eating. This is the perfect way to get the local flavour of the place and to mingle with the local people. It makes for a perfect outing to go with family and friends.
