Southcentre Mall is a popular choice among locals in Calgary due in large part to its awesome stores, child friendliness and ease of access. It happens to be a little smaller than its neighbour, the Chinook Centre and feels a little less overwhelming to shoppers. Located on Anderson Road SE, this mall offers close to 200 shops and businesses. Opened in 1974, it has undergone many changes, including renovations and expansions in 1988, 1999 and most recently in 2009. One of the best things about Southcentre is the ‘free’ personal stylist appointments it offers. For 90 minutes, a stylist will meet with you, discover your favourite stores, budget and style, and walk you through stores, teaching you exactly how to look your best, with no pressure to buy anything! It also happens to be the first mall to offer one on one Santa visits for children with autism. Kids (age 1-11) can also play in the ROAR Play Park, a free play area that gives tired parents a break. Stores here include the Disney Store, Sport Chek, Hudson’s Bay and Crate & Barrel.
