The Forks National Historic Site

History buffs should most definitely put The Forks National Historic Site on the top of their list when visiting the city of Winnipeg in the summertime. The site is operated by Parks Canada and takes visitors 6,000 years back in history where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet. Visitors here will get the chance to learn how the rivers connected the prairies to the rest of the world, as well as have a chance to understand how Aboriginal people lived here. Guided tours are available throughout the summer where a park interpreter will show you around and offer even more education on the area. Visitors will also enjoy the canoe dock, hiking trails throughout and award winning sculptures throughout. There are a ton of interpretive exhibits as well if you choose to explore on your own. If you happen to bring the kids along make sure to visit the Variety Heritage Adventure Centre where kids can learn through play and water activities about the fur trade, the first people and much more.
