This airline is giving away free flight tickets to foreign tourists; find out who’s eligible

As per the latest developments, if you plan a Japan trip now, you will likely be able to save some extra money in domestic flight bookings. As per the latest news reports, Japan Airlines (JAL) is rolling out an exciting new offer that aims to encourage international travellers to travel beyond Japan’s popular tourist destinations like Kyoto, Tokyo, and Osaka.

Reports add that the airline is offering free domestic flights within Japan to visitors from select countries, allowing them the freedom to pick lesser-known regions to explore across the country. This initiative is part of Japan’s effort to disperse tourism and promote its lesser-explored areas, offering travellers a more authentic and diverse Japanese experience.

Who can benefit?

Indian travellers have a reason to cheer now! Reports add that travellers from countries such as Canada, the United States, Mexico, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, China, and Taiwan can take advantage of this offer. Japan Airlines will likely expand this list and include more nations in the near future.

In order to be eligible, travellers must use JAL to book both a domestic flight within Japan and an international flight to Japan in the same reservation.

Many travellers can take advantage of the offer for free, but those from the US, Canada, Mexico, and China who stay in Japan for more than 24 hours will have to pay a stopover fee of US$100 or ¥300. There are no extra costs for travellers from other qualified nations.


To be eligible for the free tickets, tourists will be required to first book international round-trip tickets, and during this purchase, they can then book the domestic flights on offer.

Japan Airlines is promoting this offer to ensure Japan's lesser-known locations also get coverage in the tourism radar. For instance, visitors could fly into Tokyo and then take a complimentary domestic trip to Hokkaido, which is well-known for its world-class ski resorts and stunning national parks. Some of the recommended locations include Nachi Falls, Japan's largest waterfall, and Wakayama, where tourists can explore the revered Koyasan temple complex.
