Actor Jayjit Banerjee protests ageist remarks on Debashree Roy

Veteran actress Debashree Roy, who is set to play the titular role in the upcoming TV show ‘Sarbajaya’, has reportedly been targeted by trolls. Ever since the promo of the new show went on-air, social media is flooded with posts and memes targeting the actress.

also came forward protesting the trolls. In a social media post, he asked netizens targetting Debashree, whether any of them can achieve the National Award just like the veteran actress. Notably, Debashree was honoured with the prestigious award for her performance in ‘Unishe April’, directed by late director Rituparno Ghosh.

Jayjit emphasised that criticism is good but distasteful comments aren’t welcomed. Jayjit’s straightforward words earned praises from his fans and industry peers.

Earlier, actor Bhaswar Chatterjee also raised his voice regarding the trolls. In a social media post, he questioned whether a National Award-winning actress deserves such treatment. He also argued, 50 something heroes in Bollywood romance heroines half of their age but viewers hardly question them.

Debashree Roy, who has done both Bengali and Hindi movies, proved her acting mettle time and again. After a long break, she is set to make a comeback. She will play the titular role in the upcoming show ‘Sarbajaya’, which stars Kushal Chakraborty opposite her. The storyline will revolve around housewife Sarbajaya, who dedicated her life for the family but in return, left empty-handed. How Sarbajaya's husband encourages her to pursue her dreams, makes the main crux of the story.
