‘Trinaynai’ to ‘Bhoomikanya’: Bengali TV’s major hits and misses in 2019

From supernatural series to comedy drama, Bengali television saw many new shows this year. Some wooed the audience instantly while a few proved to be an underdog. On the other hand, many shows reportedly couldn’t match the expectation despite setting high hopes during the launch. Let’s take a look at the hits and misses of Bengali television… (Photo: Facebook)

Trinayani:

‘Trinayani’ starring debutante Shruti Das and popular actor Gourab Roy Chowdhury is certainly one of the most successful shows launched in 2019. Village belle Nayan aka Trinayani is blessed with the power of premonition. She uses her power to help others from threats. Nayan gets married to rich and successful businessman Dripta, whose stepmother is after his property. Nayan becomes his shield. Initially, Dripta doesn’t accept Nayan as his wife but gradually realizes her worth. How ideal bahu Nayan keeps Dripta, her in-laws and all other people around her safe risking her life, makes the crux of the story. The show instantly started faring well on the TRP charts; thanks to a gripping storyline narrating the ugly side of the power and greed along with an innocent girl’s zeal to keep everyone safe. ‘Trinayani’ is certainly one of the biggest hits of 2019. Krishnakoli:

Though the show was launched in 2018, it is worth a mention especially because it dominated the top position on the TRP charts for almost 32 weeks. ‘Krishnakoli’ was certainly one of the most successful shows that launched last year. Actors Tiyasha Roy and Neel Bhattacharjee along with a strong supporting cast recreated its magic this year too. (Photo: Facebook)

Shreemoyee:

The family drama starring Indrani Haldar in the titular role proved itself to be an underdog. The show was launched on the same time slot when hit daily soap ‘Krishnakoli’ is being aired by another rival channel. But ‘Sreemoyee’ slowly started scoring well and gradually entered the top 3 position on the TRP charts. The daily soap narrates the struggle of a middle aged housewife who dedicates her entire life to the family. After being cheated by husband, abused by in-laws, Sreemoyee finds solace in Dinka, her son. Sreemoyee’s other children have no time for her. How a simple housewife decides to create her identity leaving her age-factor and society aside, makes the crux of the story. The daily soap has a strong cast that includes Sudip Mukherjee, Ushasie Chakraborty, Saptarshi Maulik, Swapan Kumar, Chitra Sen, Bharat Kaul and others. (Photo: Facebook)

Alo Chhaya:

The story of two little girls Alo and Chhaya instantly wooed the audience. Child actors Hiya Dey and Smriti Singh were initially seen playing the titular roles. According to the storyline, Alo is an intelligent girl, who gets separated from her parents. She starts living with her maternal aunt and her family. Alo’s cousin Chhaya isn’t a bright student. Chhaya’s father, who is much concerned about his reputation, forces Alo to pursue education on behalf of Chhaya. The story took a time leap following which Alo and Chhaya have grown up. Debadrita Basu is playing Alo while Oindrila Bose is playing Chhaya’s character. (Photo: Facebook)

Ami Sirajer Begum:

The show was launched last year December starring Sean Banerjee, Pallavi Dey, Badshah Moitra and Chandreyee Ghosh. It was one of the most high-budgeted shows.
