Ushasie Chakraborty as 'June aunty' to Deboshree Roy as 'Jaya': Bengali actors who made a successful comeback in recent past

Bengali television witnessed some successful comebacks of popular actors. Latest with Deboshree Roy’s comeback and Koneenica Banerjee’s upcoming show ‘Aay Tobe Sohochori’, the list is getting bigger. Right from Tota Roy Choudhury, Ushasie Chakraborty to Indrani Dutta, a number of popular Bengali actors made a comeback on television in the recent past. Take a look… (Photo: Facebook)

Tota Roy Choudhury

Tota, who has Tollywood and Bollywood films in his kitty, made his television comeback with ‘Sreemoyee’. Prior to this, he was seen playing the titular role in ‘Taranath Tantrik’. After taking a brief break from TV, Tota gave a nod to Leena Ganguly for 'Sreemoyee'. And the show is a huge hit. He is playing Rohit Sen’s role in the popular show which has been remade in Hindi as Anupamaa (starring Rupali Ganguly in the titular role) and 5 other languages. Tota as Rohit Sen is every bit convincing. Well, Rohit not only saved Sreemoyee and gave her new hope in life, his chemistry with actress Indrani Halder, spiced up the storyline as well. Bengali viewers, especially female ones, fell in love with Rohit's charisma. (Photo: Facebook)

Indrani Dutta

The veteran actress Indrani Dutta was mostly seen in films until now. She did a few TV shows on Doordarshan in her early career including ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’. Indrani, who has worked with renowned directors like, Tarun Majumder, Biresh Chatterjee, Prabhat Roy and others, said yes to ‘Jibon Saathi’ in which she is playing a prominent character. The actress decided to do a TV project soon after the lockdown was relaxed last year. (Photo: Facebook)

Deboshree Roy

Debashree, who once ruled the silver screen, stayed away from the limelight for more than 10 years. She recently made her comeback with television show 'Sarbojaya' which started tasting success from its very beginning. Trolls on social media, ageist comments, nothing could stop the veteran actress who proved her acting talent yet again. Her show ‘Sarbojaya’ started casting a spell on the TRP charts from the first week.

Ushasie Chakraborty

After giving Bengali TV a miss, Ushasie made a comeback to the small screen with daily soap 'Sreemoyee'. Well, the rest is a history both for the viewers who simply love to hate June aunty and Sreemoyee whose life got ruined because of her (June)! With her never-ending plots, June single-handedly ruined Sreemoyee’s life. And with her typical mannerism and patent dialogue ‘Mahsi’ (in a typical tone), Ushasie brought life into June’s character. Prior to this Bengali television hardly seen any antagonist enjoying such massive popularity. Ushasie chose to do a television show after a brief break. In the meanwhile, she was busy with films and other projects. (Photo: Facebook)

Om made a smooth transition to films. Last year, he featured in mini-series ‘Lockdown Diary’ and in 2021, Om decided to devote more time and made a dashing comeback with 'Dance Bangla Dance'. Sudipa quit the show in 2018 during pregnancy and made a comeback last year. Meanwhile, she handled creative aspects of TV show 'Bajlo Tomar Alor Benu' and enjoyed motherhood too. Maitreyee Mitra and Aparajita Adhya hosted 'Rannaghar' in her absence. (Photo: Facebook)
