While a lot of shows got renewed and were released this year so far, many other TV shows ended up getting axed from their channels. From low viewer ratings to budget issues, a lot of things went down that led to some fan favourite shows getting cancelled. From ‘Watson’, ‘Law and Order: Organized Crime’, to shows like ‘Going Dutch’ and ‘The Abandons’, here’s everything that got cancelled this year.

‘PBS News Weekend’

The weekend news show was majorly popular amongst masses; however, it was one of the first TV shows to get cancelled this year. It aired its last episode on January 11, with the famed anchor John Yang explaining that the show could not get federal funding, which is why it had to be cancelled.

‘Rehab Addict’

Rather than getting cancelled because of budget cuts or other similar issues, ‘Rehab Addict’ ended up getting cancelled in February after a controversial video of the host, Nicole Curtis, was leaked online. In the video, Curtis was seen using a racial slur while filming for the show. Shortly after, it ended up getting cancelled after a 9 season run. As per TMZ, Curtis had also issued an apology, citing that “I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone.”

‘Class’

‘Class’ starring Ayesha Kanga, Anjali Sivaraman, Chayan Chopra, and many others was a big hit on OTT platforms last year. While initially it was confirmed that the show would have another season, the plans were squashed by the end of last year. While talking to Men’s Journal about the decision, actor Gurfateh Pirzada explained that life had “other plans” for them.

‘Billionaires' Bunker’

This Spanish-language thriller series was also another show that was cancelled after only one season. Following its debut last year, fans had been waiting for another season. However, Netflix confirmed in December that the show will not be renewed.

6/15

‘Alice in Borderland’

‘Alice in Borderland’ was perhaps one of the most beloved OTT shows worldwide. It ran for three seasons, and the platform later confirmed last year that the third season of the Japanese-language survival show would also be its last.

7/15

‘Pop the Balloon’

‘Pop the Balloon,’ the reality TV dating show, which was derived from the popular YouTube series of the same name, was another show to get cancelled. In February, Deadline confirmed the news and shared that the show would not be renewed for another season.

‘Miss Governor’

In March this year, Terri J. Vaughn, who leads the TV show, confirmed that it won’t be returning to Netflix for a second season. She revealed that she was heartbroken that the show ended up getting cancelled altogether. ‘Miss Governor’ was backed by Tyler Perry.

‘Terminator Zero’

This spin-off series was another show that headed towards the chopping block in February this year. As for the reason behind cancelling the animated show, creator Mattson Tomlin posted a comment on his account saying, “The critical and audience reception to it was tremendous, but at the end of the day, not nearly enough people watched it.”

10/15

‘Watson’

Medical-mystery drama ‘Watson’ was praised by many upon the release of its debut season. However, it was not enough as the show ended up getting cancelled in March this year. The show ran for two seasons, with actor Morris Chestnut leading the show.

11/15

‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’

Another famed spin-off from the original long-running ‘Law and Order’ franchise, ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ ended up getting axed after running for a total of five seasons. The spin-off was being led by Christopher Meloni, who is best known for his role in ‘Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.’

12/15

‘The Abandons’

‘The Abandons’ was a Western period drama that could not have run for more than its first season itself. Variety reported earlier this year, in January, that the show would not be returning with a second season.

13/15

‘The Vince Staples Show’

The comedy show ran for approximately two seasons before it was confirmed earlier this year that there would be no new seasons. The first two seasons are available on Netflix to watch.

14/15

‘Sherri’

After running for 4 successful seasons, the famed talk show starring Sherri Shepherd was officially cancelled. PEOPLE confirmed in a February report that the show would not be returning with its 5th season. As per a statement from the report, the decision was made based on and “driven by the evolving daytime television landscape.”

Going Dutch’

American sitcom ‘Going Dutch’ was cancelled after two seasons. The news came on;y two weeks after the second season had officially aired. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news earlier this month. The show was led by actor Denis Leary.
