Romantic TV shows have always been popular because of their emotional narration and memorable couples. Most of these programs touch on love and friendship as well as ambitions and self-development. These are five romantic television programs that still find a following.

2/6

'The Vampire Diaries' (2009–2017)

'The Vampire Diaries' takes place in the town of Mystic Falls, a town that remains a mystery. The story revolves around Elena Gilbert whose life will never remain the same after she falls in love with the brooding vampire Stefan Salvatore. Things soon become complicated when Stefan's unpredictable brother, Damon, enters the scene making this story one of the most intense love triangles on TV. There are supernatural secrets, ancient enmities, and heart-rending betrayal, all of which continually push the stakes higher. The series was produced by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec. Starring Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder, the series brought to life such a memorable drama as Mystic Falls.

3/6

'One Tree Hill' (2003–2012)

On the surface, 'One Tree Hill' appears as a standard high-school basketball story about two competitors Lucas and Nathan Scott. However, the story develops into something touching upon the essence of friendships, dreams and very emotional relationships. The romance between Nathan and Haley is one of the show's most popular storylines, spanning an unexpected teenage relationship to a strong one based on love. The show was written by Mark Schwahn and stars Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Bethany Joy Lenz, and Sophia Bush.

4/6

'Gossip Girl' (2007–2012)

Nothing remains hidden for very long in the glamorous Manhattan of the Upper East Side in the world of 'Gossip Girl'. The lives of privileged teenagers such as Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf are constantly revealed by an anonymous blogger who knows all their secrets. Amidst parties with luxuries and prestigious schools, complicated friendships and love affairs keep the drama going. The series was created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and stars Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, and Ed Westwick.

5/6

'Gilmore Girls' (2000–2007)

A warm, humorous and charming show, 'Gilmore Girls' is based on single mother Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory, as they mature in the eccentric town of Stars Hollow. Although the show focuses on their strong mother-daughter relationship, some of their most iconic relationships include Lorelai's slow-burn romance with diner owner Luke Danes. The show's fast-paced dialogue and emotional scenes give it a distinctly familiar feel. The show, developed by Amy Sherman-Palladino, stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel.

6/6

'Dawson's Creek' (1998–2003)

Few teen dramas embodied youthful love as much as 'Dawson's Creek' did. The show takes place in the small coastal town of Capeside. The main character, aspiring filmmaker Dawson Leery, and his close circle of friends experience first love, heartbreak, and adulthood. The love triangle involving Dawson, Joey Potter and Pacey Witter became one of television's most unforgettable relationships. The series, created by Kevin Williamson, features James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and Michelle Williams.
