Amit Kumar's criticism of the contestants to fake love story between Pawandeep and Arunita; Times when Indian Idol 12 made headlines and was slammed for its drama

Singing reality show Indian Idol has landed in trouble not once but several times in the 12th season. Be it Kishore Kumar's son Amit's sharp criticism of the show, Anu Malik's return on it or the fake love angle between Pawandeep Rajan and Arunita Kanjilal, the show made noise several times and not always for good. Take a look at times when it made headlines and was slammed by the netizens.

It is only recently that Amit Kumar appeared on the reality show for Kishore Kumar special episode. While he did not say much on it, he later rubbished the contestants and even the judges. He told exclusively to ETimes TV, "I was told sabko praise karna hai. I was told jo jaisa bhi gaaye usko uplift karna hai because it's a tribute to Kishore da. I thought it would be a homage to my father. But once there, I just followed what I was asked to do. I had told them to give me portions of the script in advance, but nothing of that sort happened. I didn't enjoy the episode at all." Amit also revealed his reasons for going to the show. "Look, everyone needs money. My father was also particular about money. They gave me the price I demanded and I went, why would I have left it?" Not just Amit, the show was even blasted by netizens saying that Neha Kakkar and Himesh Reshammiya sang Kishoreda's songs very badly and even the participants did no justice.

It is not the first time that the makers have tried to cash in on a love story. In the previous season, they created a fake love angle between host Aditya Narayan and judge Neha Kakkar which even went to the extent of their marriage on set, this time it's a fake love angle they have created between Pawandeep Rajan and Arunita Kanjilal. This, however, backfired and Twitterati criticised the stint.

Last month, contestant Sawai Bhatt revealed on stage that he wants to quit the show as he wants to be with his mother, who had not been keeping well. This left the judges in surprise. Not only did they praise Sawai and laud his courage but the judges also managed to convince him to stay. Talking exclusively to BT, Himesh Reshammiya, who is seen as a judge on the show, said,"I had to convince Sawai to stay back. The channel has assured him that his parents can come to Mumbai and stay with him. This way, he can be with them as well as continue with his singing journey in the show." However, netizens called the stint a 'well-scripted drama'.

Anu Malik had to step down from the show in 2019 due to the #MeToo controversy. It was a move welcomed back then by many including singer Sona Mohapatra. This time, however, Anu returned first for a special 90s episode on the show as a guest and later as a judge. This made many angry and they expressed their disappointment on social media.

Manoj Muntashir, who joined Indian Idol 12 as a new judge, made a factual error while talking about Shammi Kapoor on the show earlier this month. He shared on stage that Shammi Kapoor never married after his first wife Geeta Bali's demise in 1965. It is, however, incorrect. Shammi Kapoor did marry Neila Devi Gohil four years later. For this Manoj apologised on his Twitter account. He wrote, "Like all you lovely people out there, I am a die hard hindi cinema fan too. Sometimes fans do commit mistakes unintentionally. I apologize about a factual error in today's Indian idol episode. Shammi ji married Neila Devi after the untimely demise of Geeta Bali Ji." This made headlines and caught everyone's notice.
