Bigg Boss 18's Chum Darang on her bond with Karan Veer Mehra and wedding plans: I want to marry and have kids too

Chum Darang recently graced Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa's podcast. The actress got candid about her Bigg Boss 18 stint, her bond with Karan Veer Mehra, Shilpa Shirodkar, Shrutika Arjun and even shared her views on getting married. The actress even shared bits about her hometown, acting career and more.

2/9

Her journey with acting

I came to Mumbai in 2018, I cannot believe it is 2025 now. So when I had come here, I had returned in 2019 because it is difficult to survive in Mumbai if you don't have work. But then I bagged Gangubai, then again I thought about leaving, and Badhaai Do happened. So Bombay ne jaane hi nahi diya mujhko. And then Bigg Boss happened and I have other projects left.

3/9

Chum was into beauty pageants

I never did modelling, I was into beauty pageants. I had my interest in studies too, so Papa had kept a condition that he wanted me to get a few degrees and then he allowed me to go to pursue my dream. His vision was that if nothing happens in acting, then I have my education to help me get a job.

4/9

Meaning of her name

So my actual name was Suum, it is very common, so my mother changed it to Chum in my birth certificate. So the meaning of my name in our language is gateway of life. So my dadi had kept my name in Suum. So in Arunachal, there are more than 100 sub-tribes, so all of us have different dialects. So our common language in the state is Hindi.

On getting roles focusing North East

Initially, I got not so good roles. For work, I had to take up a few roles but after Badhaai Do, things have changed for me. I played an Arunachali girl in the film. My upcoming projects are also focusing on characters from the North East. So I feel, now writers are also focusing on roles that are fit for us. There is a lot of talent, but we don't have opportunities. Until they don't include us, then how would people come to know about us?

6/9

On fans love

I was very shy when people started recognising me after Bigg Boss. When people would come to click pictures with me, I would get a little awkward. I even met Sudesh Ji in the mall, his daughter Shikha had come to buy shoes like mine. So I clicked a picture with her there.

7/9

Thankful for ChumVeer reels

I am so thankful to all the fans who made those ChumVeer reels. I was so happy about it. I stayed all night watching all the content. I didn't even give time to my parents for the first two days as I was excited to see my journey. I want to go inside Bigg Boss house again.

8/9

On how she bagged a role in Gangubai Kathiawadi

Chum shared, "I took my grandmother to Delhi who had knee pain. It was me and my grandmother. We were staying at my brother's house, who was studying in Delhi. My grandmother is very old, in her 80s, and only we were at home. There was no one to record. She recorded my audition video."

Chum further continued, "The makers liked my audition video. I got a call and someone said 'I'm speaking from Bhansali's office.' I told my best friend and my best friend told me it was fake but later I realised it was not fake and then it happened."

9/9

On marriage and bond with Karan Veer

Karan and I are good friends, not right away, but yes, I want to get married and I want kids as well. So I would want to marry at the right time, rather than having a bigger age gap with my baby.
