Exclusive – Anupamaa actor Sachin Tyagi: In television, where men start playing fathers in their early 30s, I got a central role at 51
Sachin Tyagi, who recently entered Anupamaa, opened up about his journey on the popular show. In an exclusive chat with Times of India TV, the actor expressed his happiness on bagging the role and called it unreal. He shared his experience working alongside Rupali Ganguly and praised her for portraying the role efficiently. Sachin also spoke about
On bagging the role
There was a gap of around 10 months between Yeh Rishta and this role in Anupamaa. In between, we worked on a project with Isha from DKP, and after that, we were asked to come on board for this. It came as a bit of a surprise because after doing certain kinds of roles, you don't really expect something like this. So I feel very grateful. Honestly, it was a complete surprise for me. I never thought I would get a role like this, and even now, it still feels unreal. It’s like life has given me another chance, a perfect opportunity—and I’m doing my best to make the most of it.

Rupali as Anupamaa
This is the amazing part—neither you nor the world can predict what kind of role will come your way. Rupali Ganguly was brilliant in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, but after that, she may not have received a role that truly showed her full talent and made people see her strength as an actor. Then came Anupamaa. I think she was around 40 when she got that role, and it completely changed everything for her.
Bagging a central character at the age of 51
Similarly, I got this role at the age of 51. In television, women often start playing mothers in their late 20s or early 30s, and men begin playing fathers quite early too. So getting such an important, lead role at this stage is very special. When I see Rupali in Anupamaa, I truly feel she was meant to play that character. I cannot imagine anyone else doing it better. Maybe something similar has happened with me too. I don’t know how, but I am trying my best to do justice to the opportunity and live up to my own expectations.
On staying relevant in the industry
I don’t really have control over staying relevant. As actors, we depend a lot on writers, channels, and producers. If they feel we fit a role or a project, they call us. All we can do is take care of ourselves, stay fit and not lose hope when good opportunities don’t come our way. There aren’t too many chances, so when one comes, you have to be fully prepared to grab it. That’s what I’ve always tried to do, and I think I’ve managed to make the most of it.
