Exclusive - Charu Asopa: I’ve seen 'bua' Sushmita Sen’s qualities in my daughter Ziana; both of them are very strong

Mere Angne Mein fame Charu Asopa, who is gearing up for her OTT debut, recently joined ETimes TV for an exclusive conversation. The actress got candid about how she is parenting her baby girl Ziana, dealing with trolls and her bond with estranged husband Rajeev Sen. Charu believes in giving a healthy atmosphere to daughter Ziana and shared how singlehandedly she is raising her daughter and meeting the daily expenses. She also opened up about being shocked when sister-in-law Sushmita Sen suffered a heart attack. Times have changed I feel today it doesn’t matter if you are married, or a mother of a child, it all depends on how you look. Obviously, if they are casting you for a role of a heroine they would want you to look good. Unke dimaag mein ek image hai and they want to fit you in that screen image. After pregnancy, I worked on myself and lost a lot of weight and did a show Johri. While doing the show there were requirements when I’d to look a particular way or have a particular figure. They would tell me face is chubby, start running and exercising so I would get to know from them. Even when I went to other auditions and would look at other girls, I realised I had to reduce weight. There was a time when I would get to hear things like you are unknown, semi-known actor or overexposed on television and I would feel bad. But today they judge on your talent, how good of an actor you are, how well you perform. Also, today there’s an additional pressure that people cause you on the basis of your social media followers. No, I don’t take social media pressure because ultimately I’m a mother and I can’t ignore my child. So whatever time I get I make reels or videos on Instagram. Plus vlogging is something that I will continue doing as we don’t know in our profession Aaj kaam hai Kal nahi… I will continue doing it as I can do it with Ziana. I can make content for social media in my comfort zone. When I take an acting job I’ve to leave her for 14/15 hours a day and it becomes quite stressful. An actor’s skills can’t be decided on the basis of social media following. If you are an influencer and you are wearing good clothes, it won’t make you a good actor. When people judge me I don’t feel bad, because they have judged me so much that I literally don’t bother or get affected. Kehte hai Na Kisi ko itna mat Darao ke Uske andar ka darr khatam hojaaye… it has happened to me. But when they talk negatively about my daughter I get really hurt. She must be looking like a three-year-old baby but she is just one and a half months old. She’s just 18 months old. How can she suddenly start talking. She looks older because her genes are like that. Her grandfather, bua and father are like that. They all are very tall so she got that from them. Sushmita did is a fighter and we all the entire family is proud of her. I think she can fight any problem in life, she just fights it out. She’s an amazing human being and even if I am in touch with or not, she resides in my heart. Whenever I meet her she gives me such a warm hug and it feels amazing. I don’t think Didi informed anyone when the incident happened as she was shooting in Jaipur at that time (iske baare mein shayad didi ne Kisi ko bataya nahi tha). In Jaipur, before she could inform anyone she informed the doctors. When I heard the news, I was stunned and I called up my mother-in-law. She told me about the incident and assured me that Sushmita Didi was doing fine. We did not expect this and it was shocking. I’m happy she’s fine now. (Photo: Instagram)

Yes, I get insecure and worried about meeting the expenses. I sometimes think how I will manage the expenses but I don’t get affected by it rather I prefer working towards it. I do campaigns, Vlogs and through social media one can earn money these days. It is the good part. You get good money to make reels, share posts on your Instagram account. I earn money on YouTube through integrated videos. I somehow manage my expenses. Jab tak ho raha hai I’m doing jab nahi hoga I’ll take up saas bahu shows. (Photo: Instagram)

Ziana is Rajeev and my responsibility and she is our child. Rajeev can meet her whenever he wants, I always say this that he’s always welcome to spend time with Ziana. In fact, if he wants I can drop Ziana at his place and I recently sent Ziana to be with her father. That’s not a problem. But us coming back together is not possible and iske baare mein kya hi bolun main. (Photo: Instagram)

I feel it is better this way that we both are co-parenting Ziana. I want our daughter to see us both respecting and behaving good towards each other.
