Exclusive - Dalljiet Kaur on wedding preparations with beau Nikhil Patel, remarriage being considered a taboo and ex-husband Shalin Bhanot

Dalljiet Kaur, who is all set to get married to beau Nikhil Patel on March 18, spoke exclusively with ETimes TV about the wedding preparations. The actress opened up about her thoughts on her second marriage, things with ex-husband Shalin Bhanot, friends’ reaction to the wedding announcement and more. We want to keep the preparations subtle but as parents we want to include our kids in the celebration so that they remember this wedding. They will have a memory forever that this is how their parents got met and celebrate their relationship. We will have a gurudwara wedding with limited people and all the people who have been with me in my good and bad times will be part of the celebration. (Photo: Instagram)

Meri toh literally Bidaai hai as of now and I want to make it clear that I am not giving up or quitting my career. But yes it is definitely my Bidaai as I am wrapping up my house where I have been staying for the last so many years. The wedding will take place in India. Karishma Tanna, my Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon team, all have met Nikhil. Jaydon has lots of maasis and maamis and all of them have met and screened him. The fact that Nikhil is an amazing dad and I am an amazing mother kind of validates the reason why we are together. He travels a lot for his work but I know no matter wherever he is travelling, he knows everything about his daughter. He makes notes about his daughter’s school timing and everything exactly what I do for Jaydon. The fact that we both are amazing parents solves our half problems, doubts, questions. For me Shalin is going to be the father of my child and whether my past was ugly or good is something that I don’t want to get into. People will keep using permutation and combination according to them. I genuinely decided not to watch this year’s Bigg Boss as I get affected. But being on social media, you see many clips and similarly I got to see a clip where he was in the confession room and he looked disturbed. I know him so I knew he was in discomfort. I felt if I wished him all the best maybe my fans and others would also vote for him. But then I started getting messages that I am two faced and how I am supporting him now and 'oh so u have forgotten what happened to you'. There were few who very strategically wrote, they must be his fans. They wrote that I’ve forgiven him, and the past is done and dusted. I suddenly felt I should have kept quiet. (Photo: Instagram)

I consciously decided not to give interviews. My biggest support to Shalin was not talking about anything and reacting. We both have our set of people who will keep pouncing. I went into a shell after this incident. I had to give an explanation that leaving the past aside, I just saw him in that situation, I felt I should support him. I know staying in that house is difficult. I shared something on a human level. I don’t owe any explanation to anyone. Joh Mera gila shikwah Shalin ke saath hai Woh hai. I would want Shalin to have a great career ahead and be a happy person. I genuinely wish that for him and I don’t need to explain this to anyone. In fact, when I was writing that explanation I was feeling why I am doing it but then I wrote because I understand we are public figures and we need to take it with a pinch of salt. When Salman sir told Shalin that your ex has found someone I learnt about it within a few minutes of the shoot. I was like oh my God I haven’t announced and sir has already said about it on national television. Salman sir has been a part of Jaydon’s journey ever since I was in Bigg Boss 13. He has very consciously known about my life. It’s not that I am in touch with him but he knows about us. He is very protective about Jaydon. I don’t understand why second marriage or remarriage are seen as a taboo. Not just the actresses, even teachers, businessmen, people in the villages are also getting married for the second time. It is just that we are actors so our lives get discussed. I’ll speak about Shweta Tiwari here.
