Exclusive - Sheezan Khan opens up about mental health: Have been at a place where I felt lost, it’s okay to ask for help
Actor Sheezan Khan says that when it comes to mental health, we need to work on removing stigmas around it. He adds that he, too, has often found himself at a place where he felt lost and defeated. However, he adds that one must feel comfortable in asking for help.
“Mental health is very important to me. I have been at a place where I felt lost and wasn't healthy mentally but now, I make sure to stay connected with my loved ones, talk about my feelings with my family, and take time for myself when needed,” he says.
Ask him what he would like to tell others who are suffering from mental health difficulties, and he says, “I would tell them that it’s okay to ask for help. Don’t be afraid to reach out to someone you trust or even seek professional help. Taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body, so don’t ignore it. When your mind is healthy you instantly try to be physically happy also.”
He adds, “I feel when actors, public figures or influencers talk about mental health openly, it's an encouraging sign for others to do the same. It helps break the negative judgment and shows people they’re not alone in what they’re going through.”
Meanwhile, talking about how he stays confident in an industry that’s so focused on appearance, he says, “Confidence comes from being comfortable with who you are. I still remember at the start of 2024, I was not well and being on the hospital bed made me realise how important prioritising yourself is. I focus on staying fit and healthy, but I also remind myself that it’s okay to not be perfect. I believe everyone has their own strengths, and it’s important to embrace that. Exercise helped me to relax and keep my mind clear.”
He adds, “I want to tell my fans that true beauty comes from self-love. Don’t let anyone else’s opinions define your worth. Embrace your body, take care of it, and remember that confidence is what truly makes you shine.”
He says that self doubt has plagued him as well, but he has always encouraged himself to carry on. “I’ve had moments of self-doubt about my appearance. I have always wanted to be fit and have abs which I had in the past. But I have learned to focus on what makes me feel strong and healthy rather than trying to just have a body with no mental peace. It’s all about finding your own balance and being kind to yourself,” he says.
