From Dipika Chikhlia to Debina Bonnerjee: Celebs who played Goddesses on-screen and got trolled for their real life looks

In telly town, where shows run for years, audiences deeply connect with the on-screen characters. Specially, actors, who play Gods and Goddesses on-screen, audiences find it difficult to see/accept them in their real life self. And often this ends up in the actor getting trolled on social media. In recent times, several actresses, who played Goddesses and pious roles on TV, got trolled as they posted pictures of them just being themselves.

Dipika Chikhlia is still addressed as Sita Maa everywhere. The actress, on several occasions has spoken about how people would fall on her feet and seek blessings when Ramayan was on. After getting back into the limelight during lockdown, Dipika would share many moments from her personal life wearing outfits of her choices. She would instantly get trolled for the outfits. People would comment, “Aapki har Ghar mein Puja hoti hai sita Mata FIR Aisa Avatar kyon,” “This doesn’t suits to you as per your decent image of Sita,” and more.

Mommy of two beautiful girls, Debina Bonnerjee recently got trolled for showing cleavage in a thigh-high slit gown. Debina was dressed to attend a awards show and what people noticed was her revealing outfit. Debina was seen as Sita in 2008 Ramayan and her fans were disappointed to see their 'Sita Maa' sporting bold clothes. One user wrote, "Aap Bihar ki bahu ho or aap Sita maa ho, please aap aesi dress mat peheniye, hum log aap ko Sita Maa ki nazar se dekhtey hai, aise dekhtey hue acha nahi lagta hai.” Another wrote, “Debina madam, aapko aise vastra shobha nahi dete. Aapko zyada follow karne wale log mata sita ke roop mein pasand karte hain, kisi ki bhavna ko aahat na karein.”

Shivya Pathania was recently holidaying in Maldives and posted some stunning pictures in bikinis. However, there were quite a lot of users, who commented on her choice of outfits as she played a Goddess on-screen. There were users who commented, “Agar aise kapde pehne ho toh Radha jaisa pavitra character nahin karna chahiye. Some comments also read, “Aap Radha maa bani ho RadhaKrishn serial mein, aisi pics mat post karo.” The actress who played the role of Goddess Parvati in Baal Shiv reacted to trolls saying, “Since childhood I have witnessed women being shamed for their choice of clothing and being bullied for the same and since a very young age I haven been breaking barriers, fighting stereotypes and to know and tell that the choice of clothing can and will never judge a woman’s character of what aura, substance and values she holds. To end it all, I appreciate everyone who has been a part of my journey till now and apologise if I have hurt anyone’s sentiments.”

RadhaKrishn’s Radha, which was portrayed by Mallika Singh, also got trolled for posting pictures in a blue bralette and black shorts. One fan commented, “Mam Humne aapko Ek Devi ke roop Mein Dekha Hai aap yah Kaisi post Kripa Karke Aisi post na daliye” While other wrote: “Radha aise kapade nai penti thi dekho to kaise kapade pehni he.” Mallika never any heed to the trolls and keeps posting pics in her choice of outfits.

Sonarika Bhadoria was much loved and earned a lot of recognition for playing the role of Goddess Parvati in Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev. However, she faced criticism for posting bikini pictures on social media. So much so that she took them down but also hit back at them. Speaking to BT long back, Sonarika had said, “I received dirty and abusive comments for my pictures. People got really personal and they even tagged my mother and brother. They should understand that what I do on screen is my profession. I am not Parvati in real life. The show ended some two years ago and if people are clinging on to that image, it won’t work. Every guy I know has a bare-bodied picture as their profile picture and nobody cares. But when an actress does it, they call her names.”
