From Gurucharan Singh allegedly going missing to Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal making serious accusations against Asit Kumarr Modi: Times when Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah actors made headlines

Popular actor Gurucharan Singh aka old Sodhi of Taarak Mehta has been in the news lately after he allegedly went missing. However, this incident is not the first time a member of the show has faced trouble or attracted media attention. Numerous actors from the series have encountered adversities in the past. Here’s a look.

Actor Gurucharan Singh, renowned for his portrayal of Roshan Singh Sodhi in the popular television sitcom 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah', has allegedly gone missing. The 50-year-old actor left his residence in Delhi on April 22, to board a flight to Mumbai. However, the actor has been nowhere to be found since that day. When ETimes TV contacted producer JD Majethia, he detailed that their common friend and actress Bhakti Soni was supposed to pick up Gurucharan from the airport. However, he didn't reach Mumbai, nor did he reach home. Police have filed the case under the penal code directing kidnapping.

Actress Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, known for her role as Roshan, levied serious allegations against the show's producer, Asit Modi. Jennifer accused Modi of sexual harassment and asserted that the show's environment fostered male chauvinism, prompting her departure from the series. Subsequently, she filed a complaint against Asit Modi, the show’s Project Head Sohail Ramani, and executive producer Jatin Bajaj for alleged sexual harassment in the workplace. They were reportedly booked under sections 354 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code.

Raj and Munmun shocked everyone after news of them allegedly getting engaged came up on an online portal. However, when we contacted Munmun, she dismissed the claims calling it ‘ridiculous.’ Later, she took to her social media and said, “Funny how Fake news spreads like wildfire and keeps coming back like a boomerang. Putting things straight again! Not engaged, Not married, not pregnant. Also, If and when I do marry whether a younger man or an older one, I shall do it proudly. Honey! That’s my Bengali genes. Always proud and brave. Joi Maa Durga. Not gonna be putting my energy to fake things anymore. Moving on to better things in life. God is kind and Life is beautiful.” Raj, on the other hand, said, “Hello everyone, Just to clear things up, the news you’ve been seeing on social media is false and baseless. Team Raj Anadkat.”

Monika Bhadoriya, who essayed the role of Bawri in the show, voiced complaints regarding bad behaviour from the makers of the show. She departed from the series, citing inadequate compensation and mental harassment from the show's producer, Asit Modi. Bhadoriya stated that she was tortured to such a level by the makers that she felt like committing suicide.

Another actor who made headlines was Shailesh Lodha. He is renowned for portraying Taarak Mehta and made an exit from the show in April 2022. The actor had been part of the show since its inception, but his relationship with Asit Modi soured over time. Shailesh accused Asit of inappropriate conduct towards him, citing an incident during a stand-up show titled ‘Good Night India’ in 2022, which disappointed Modi. Shailesh claimed that, despite continuing to film for the show, his payments were withheld. Consequently, the actor filed a lawsuit against Asit for unpaid dues and sought intervention from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) after the show's creators failed to resolve the issue.

Actor Kavi Kumar Azad, renowned for his portrayal of Doctor Hathi, tragically passed away in July 2018 following a cardiac arrest. Azad had been associated with the show for nine years. Prior to his demise, he was admitted to Wockhardt Hospital in the Mira Road area of Mumbai due to health complications.

Actress Priya Ahuja Rajda, who earlier played the role of Rita Reporter is extremely upset and hurt as the makers of the show never responded to her messages or call and have now replaced her with another actor on the show. Talking exclusively to ETimes TV, Priya Ahuja Rajda called Producer Asit Modi unprofessional for not acknowledging and responding to her messages. She said, “"I wasn't aware that I was getting replaced on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Nobody from their team reached out to me that I'm not a part of the show. In fact, I'd messaged Asit bhai on May 5th asking if I am still a part of the show and I did not get any response from them. Later, May 17th, 18th I messaged Sohil Ramani, Asit Bhai again that you guys have been really unprofessional and because of that attitude, I have not heard from you guys since the last 8 months and neither you guys have replied to my messages.”
