From Hitesh Bharadwaj, Samridhii Shukla to Kanwar Dhillon; Celebs share their fond memories of Janmashtami
All around the country, devotees celebrate Janmashtami, a festival commemorating the birth of Lord Krishna, with great fervour and zeal. The Janmashtami festival includes the dahi handi ritual, in which youth fondly addressed as Govinda's don bright-coloured attires and assemble to form a human pyramid and climb to an earthen pot held in midair, filled with buttermilk that has to be broken, and this marks the celebrations of Lord Krishna's birth. Our favourite artists share their favourite memories from the festival of Janmashtami and how they celebrated it.
From Hitesh Bharadwaj, aka Rajat, Samridhii Shukla, aka Abhira, to Kanwar Dhillon, aka Sachin, Neha Harsora, aka Sailee, Ankit Raizada, aka Aman, and Shritama Mitra, aka Anjali Awasthi, share reminisces about their fondest memories of Janmashtami, and here is what they have to share:
Hitesh Bharadwaj, aka Rajat from the show Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Mein, shares, "The festival of Janmashtami has always been a special and divine one for me, as I hail from Mathura. Every household there awaits this festival, and it is celebrated with glee and fervour. There are special cuisines and sweets as well that are prepared that can be eaten during the fasts. One of my favourite memories of Janmashtami would be dressing up as Lord Krishna in childhood, and I have a photograph of that which I will treasure forever."
Kanwar Dhillon, aka Sachin, from the show Udne Ki Aasha shares, "In childhood, we celebrated the festival with immense excitement and enthusiasm. When we were young, we celebrated it near my vicinity. I used to be a part of the Govindas, who used to form a human pyramid, but I had fallen down a post, which I did not be part of then, but I always rooted and cheered for them. Once the matki was broken, we danced our hearts out to the song of Chaandi Ki Daal Par Sone Ka Mor; this song has been an important part of my childhood. Also, I used to disguise as Lord Krishna during school annual days, and being the naughty kid that I was, I used to be everywhere on the stage other than the actual mark. I have had some beautiful memories of Janmashtami that will always stay with me."
Neha Harsora, aka Sailee, from the show Udne Ki Aasha, shares, "Like every year since childhood, we celebrate the festival of Janmashtami with excitement and happiness. My mother makes sweets and makhan for the festival. We perform pujas and garba, and this is attached to me; we also have dahi handi celebrations that elevate this celebration."
Samridhii Shukla, aka Abhira from the show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, shares, "My fondest memory of the festival of Janmashtami would be to be a part of the bhajans and rituals that take place at night to bring the on set of Lord Krishna's birth. It was one of the best feelings, and in childhood, we had a holiday in the school, and the next day we used to watch the dahi handi celebrations.
Ankit Raizada, aka Aman Singh Rajpoot from the show Advocate Anjali Awasthi, shares, "I have an amazing memory of Janmashtami from my childhood, which my family and I still reminisce about. As a kid, I thought about Lord Krishna actually coming and eating maakhan, which I started relishing, and I remember one day I had consumed maakhan just like Lord Krishna used to; these are some memories I will always cherish."
Shritama Mitra, aka Anjali Awasthi from the show Advocate Anjali Awasthi, shares, "In childhood, we celebrated Janmashtami with family, where we decorated the swing (Paalna) and kept Lord Krishna in it. I hail from Asansol, where we celebrate Janmashtami with excitement. While being in school, I performed several dances and dressed up as Radha. I used to wear my mother's sarees during Janmashtami celebrations."
