Recalling days of Ramayan

When I was born, I don't remember what I liked the most but during my childhood, there was no social media. Even though there was TV, it would be in a few houses. That is when Ramayan started airing in India and people from our generation, those from the 80s. we have watched Ramayan even if we hadn't read it. I used to enjoy watching TV in my childhood, I enjoyed singing songs and listening to music. And living in Amritsar, you enjoy the food and culture.

Talking about his childhood days

My childhood was fine, I was not someone overly excited, I was a normal kid and my father saw an artist in me. He used to promote me, support me, and encouraged me to sing in school events. When I entered college, during my graduation days, whenever I participated in a function or event. I would tell my dad that I did this,he would be really happy.

Music came from his mother

You can say that music and my love for singing came from my mom. It was her hold but she would sing only in ladies sangeet around the neighborhoods. All my childhood, I have only heard her sing in the sangeets. Now, she knows I have my show on TV and her son is the producer, so she would sing a little on the show. But during my childhood, she would take me along for these sangeets.

Kapil used to love playing drums

I also had an interest in playing the drum,so she used to take me along. Now, when I started earning decently well, I bought a drum set for myself. I have loved playing instruments since childhood. And my parents have always encouraged me to become an artist.

His father's dream of becoming an artist

My dream of becoming an artist wasn't just mine. It was my father's dream that I made it come true. When he came to my first theatre play, he showed me some pictures of him where he revealed that he even used to do theatre plays as well and I had no idea about it. Whenever I would tell him about my plays and group songs, he would get really happy. He never told me about it but then when he shared about it I feel, it's their dreams that I have fulfilled.

7/8

His passion towards music and comedy

One is about passion, and I have seen my father working so hard. And the Police force is such a thankless job. We barely went out as a family, neither have we celebrated festivals because he wouldn't have any offs for us. It has been in Mumbai, where I saw that we have family dinners, weekends and all. So I realised that I would do something that makes me enjoy my job. I need to be passionate about it. And talking about focus, I had no other choice. My dad had a government job and getting one such job is difficult.

Kapil was on 21-22 years old when he came to Mumbai

I made a plan with my 4-5 friends that we had to come to Mumbai, when I first came to the city I was barely 21-22 and I had only Rs 1200 with me. I stayed for about 3 months and we would manage our two meals and then there was a time when we could only afford one meal a day. So we used to eat vada pav twice a day but then there came a point where we were only left with the train fare to go back to Amritsar so we came back. My mom was shocked seeing me as I had lost a lot of weight.
