From suffering from epilepsy to her decision to adopt a child; Kanta Laga girl Shefali Jariwala opens up about her personal life and hard decisions

Shefali Jariwala is fondly known as the Kanta Laga girl in the Industry. The actress has been a part of Bigg Boss 13 making a strong following for herself. In the recent podcast, Shefali got candid about suffering from epilepsy, her decision to adopt and more.

Shefali's legacy as the Kanta Laga girl

You tell me one thing, the artist works so hard for that one identity. I got that from Kanta Laga, it was my first project. There can be only one Kanta Laga Girl and I love it. I still want people to know me by my song and I am very proud of it. Kanta Laga was one of those first big songs that got remixed.

Suffering from epilepsy

Epilepsy is a neurological issue, it can be genetic, and hereditary as well. So that has symptoms of fits and it happens due to a high-stress environment when your brain fails to handle the stress. I had my first seizure when I was 15 years old I got overstressed due to board exams. Now there are medicines, there are wonderful doctors and I am almost 20 years seizure-free. I don't take medications. There are certain lifestyle changes and it is a manageable disorder with diet, exercise and mental work on yourself.

Spreading awareness about the seizures

I try to create awareness more and more about it, you need medical treatment. During a seizure, you could cut your own tongue. I had a seizure while I was standing on the balcony. I could have fallen and died. You don't know when you are going to have a seizure.

Her struggles and how she bagged Kanta Laga

When Kanta Laga happened, we were going through a tough time financially. My dad had lost a lot of money and my mom was working in the bank. I and my sister were studying and college fees were really expensive for Engineering. Parents were really trying to make the ends meet adding we were living in the joint family. I saw my mom put her bangles on udhaar to pay my college fees. I decided that day that my mom would have so many bangles and she wouldn't be able to decide which one to wear. Money is really important, it makes your life better by all means. It is very important and there is nothing shameful about it.

Shefali's take on botox and fillers

Everybody wants to look good, if you had the option to better a feature then they would. Those who can't do it, think it's wrong. It is expensive and painful to do such botox and surgeries. Can you see if I have done anything? I have taken care of myself and I have not needed anything. Nowadays, all of them are looking the same, some have even begun to do rhino surgeries. I believe do whatever you like.

Shefali wants to adopt a girl child

I was in a difficult financial situation, today I am in a fortunate situation and we are in a position to provide so why not adopt? Ever since I was 12-13 I wanted to adopt a child. Adoption is such a decision where everyone needs to agree in our family takes a long time and the procedure is long and lengthy. And the legalities and process is causing delays in our case. We have made our efforts, and we are waiting for when will we have a daughter at our home. Parag and I are very fond of children. We have left it to god now.
