Kajal Pisal on her recent makeover, recovering from COVID-19 and more

Kajal Pisal has been part of the television industry for a while now. She’s been seen in shows such as Kuchh Is Tara, Ek Hazaaron Me Meri Behna Hai, Udaan and Naagin 5 among others. The actress was last seen in Durga- Mata Ki Chhaya in March this year, but hasn’t signed any project after that. However, Kajal has used the time to work on herself and change her image.

‘I enjoy exploring different looks’

Kajal says, “I enjoy exploring new looks. But I hadn’t changed my look in a while now. I was busy with work and my daughter kept me away from trying new things. Last year, when I got some time to think about it, I decided to give myself a makeover. I felt that staying glam was part of me and I didn’t want that to go away due to new responsibilities and challenges.”

‘Wanted to try a different look to break free from how people see me’

She adds, “The main reason why I wanted to try different looks was to see myself in different attires and styles. This way, even the industry can see me in different looks and that can help me get various types of roles. I have always made an effort to choose different roles, but sometimes they end up being similiar. To break free from how people see me, I wanted to try a different look. So, along with the industry, even viewers can see me in a new avatar.”

‘I’m yet to understand how Bigg Boss works’

Kajal says, “I was offered Bigg Boss 15, but I didn’t take it up because I don’t know much about the show and how to go about it. I started following the show only last year; I had never seen it earlier. I saw the show last year when my friend Devoleena Bhattacharjee came as Eijaz Khan’s proxy. I'm yet to understand the game. So, I will follow the show this year and if I feel up to it, will join it next season.”

'I don't mind doing roles where I have to play a character older than my age'

The actress doesn’t mind playing any character as long as the role is meaty enough. She says, “As an actor, you must see the screen space you are getting and how important your character is. I don't mind doing roles that are older than my age as long as the role I'm given is important. Today, teenagers are playing lead roles and actors in their 30's are playing parents. Luckily, I'm playing characters which are young, classy and trendy. People enjoy my style and have appreciated my work. So, I make sure to perform well rather than complaining of ageing on screen.”

‘I took a break to focus on my daughter’

Kajal took a short break from work after she gave birth to a daughter. She says, “I took a break from work because I had been working constantly and wanted to focus on my daughter. My husband had to go out of Mumbai due to work for a while and I couldn't leave my daughter alone at home, so I decided to take a break. After a small break, I returned to the small screen with Naagin 5 in 2020. But my track was taken off to accommodate a different story line. Fortunately, within months I got my next show, Durga-Mata Ki Chhaya. I was working during the pandemic and feel blessed that I could survive during these difficult times. Currently, I am auditioning for a couple of things, but it's a big challenge for actors to find work on TV right now. But I'm staying positive and expecting good work soon.”

‘I took time to recover from COVID-19’

Kajal says, “I was tested positive for COVID-19 a fewmonths ago. I was very unwell and recovery took a long time. I lost a lot of weight and even my skin was affected. Post recovery, I started eating healthy to increase my weight. I started doing yoga and going to the gym to get back in shape. It felt great to see myself get better and that's why I worked on my transformation, too. Now I want to get back to work on TV. I'm looking forward to making my digital debut soon with the right project.”
