Tv actress Jaya Bhattacharya and fellow animal activist and actor Aishwarya Sakhuja recently marked an emotional milestone as they celebrated the first birthday of Vijay, a dog rescued after a brutal assault case in Mumbai. The celebration was not just about cake and smiles. It was also a renewed call for justice.

Vijay’s first birthday was marked with hope and resolve

Jaya Bhattacharya and Aishwarya Sakhuja shared moments from Vijay’s first birthday celebration. It included a small cake-cutting ceremony and quiet time spent with the dog. The actresses used the occasion to reiterate their demand for justice. The event also pointed out that the accused in the case is still moving freely. The celebration symbolised survival, healing, and the continued resolve to seek accountability for the crime.

The rescue and the assault case

For the uninitiated, Jaya Bhattacharya rescued Vijay from Naigaon, a suburb of Mumbai, when he was just about 1.5 months old. According to the Free Press Journal, the puppy had been sexually assaulted in the Tivari Gaon area. Jaya earlier revealed that an FIR was registered and the accused was taken into custody, but later released on bail.

Speaking about the case, she said, “We filed an FIR, cops caught the man, but he was later released on bail. Now we are waiting and wondering how do we get justice for this puppy.” She also stressed that the issue goes beyond one animal and reflects a larger failure to protect the voiceless.

Jaya Bhattacharya is actively involved with a dog rescue NGO. It works to rehabilitate stray animals and provide them with medical care and shelter. She has consistently used her platform to spotlight animal welfare issues and gaps in justice.
