Kunickaa Sadanand's old video on sexual abuse in the Hindi film industry has resurfaced on social media, sparking backlash. It all started when a video from one of Kunickaa's old interview started doing the rounds on social media where the actress made some controversial statements about rape in the film industry. This statement not only invited criticism from netizens but also from Kumar Sanu's son Jaan Kumar Sanu, who accused her of her involvement with married men.
In the resurfaced video, the seasoned actress can be seen stating that rape does not take place in Bollywood and alleges that women are the ones who give hints to filmmakers.
Kunickaa said, "Humari industry main na, main aisa maanti hoon, ki rape nahi hota hai. Kahi na kahi ladki ki taraf se bhi ek ishara hota hai. Ab jaise main aapke paas aayi kaam ke liye, ‘Hi, sir, I’d like to work with you koi accha role hoga toh.’ Yeh ho gaya ek? (In our industry, I believe that rape doesn’t really happen. Somewhere or the other, the girl also gives a signal. For example, if I approach you for work and say, ‘Hi sir, I’d like to work with you if there’s a good role,’ that itself becomes a kind of signal.)
She also spoke about instances where women complimented directors, suggesting that such gestures might be taken as signals. The veteran actress went on to add, "I’ve never heard of anybody being raped who has been clear and straightforward. I’ve always been clear and straightforward." Netizens were not happy with her statements and found it quite offensive.
Jaan Kumar Sanu also reacted on the video and dropped a comment on the post, Jaan wrote, "She did this herself her whole life. With married men and whoever she could get hands on. Mooh kholna nahi hai zyada. Bohot dhotiya khul jaayenge phir. (I don't want to speak much. Otherwise a lot of secrets would come out)."
For the uninitiated, Kunickaa was in a five year relationship with Kumar Sanu while he was facing issues in his marriage with Jaan's mother.
Although the video cuts off midway, Kunickaa's interview with Siddharth Kanan went on with the actress clarifying that she had never traded her dignity for a role in the industry. She emphasized that she stayed true to her principles while pursuing work, but candidly confessed that she had once fallen in love with a director who was already married.
