Lock Upp: Confirmed list of contestants from the Kangana Ranaut-hosted show

The task-based reality show Lock Upp is all set to go Live 24*7 from February 27. The contestants will be locked inside jails as prisoners. The makers are very tight lipped about the format of the show and it will be interesting to see how the game unfolds. Lock Upp will be hosted by Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and reportedly several celebrities from all walks of life will be seen as contestants. Here’s a list of some of the confirmed names.

Sonu Nigam’s Chanda Ki Doli Mein music video fame Nisha Rawal has done several TV shows like Main Lakshmi Tere Aangan Ki, Shaadi Mubarak and then Meet: Badlegi Duniya Ki Reet in current times. However, the turbulence in her personal life last year, grabbed headlines. Nisha accused her estranged husband Karan Mehra of domestic violence and they are fighting a legal battle. Nisha lives with her 4-yr-old son Kavish. A self-made woman, it will be interesting to see Nisha on-screen dealing with real-life situations.

Karanvir Bohra is not a new name in the industry. The popular actor is father to three baby girls and has done several films and TV shows. He is known for TV shows Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Dil Se Di Dua... Saubhagyavati Bhava?, Shararat, Naagin 2 and Qubool Hai. Incidentally, Karanvir has been a part of several reality shows along with Bigg Boss. Based on a similar concept of surviving in a captive world, Karanvir was in the top 5 of BB12.

Popular fashion designer Saisha Shinde is a proud transwoman. Formerly known as Swapnil, she is India’s first openly transwoman. In January 2021, the fashion designer took to her social media to announce that she has finally accepted herself as a transwoman. That was around six years ago and since then she has been into the process of transformation. During the premiere night, she shared that the process is still on and took a razor to shave her facial hair. She is a celebrated designer and has styled several celebrities in showbiz.

Swami Chakrapani is an Indian political activist and ascetic. He was in the news for his ‘gau mutra’ party during the initial days of Covid-19 pandemic. He hosted a cow urine party and claimed that drinking it will cure coronavirus. He spoke about his 'gau mutra’ controversy and said that he took up the offer of Lock Upp because most of the saints are already inside. He was also the one, who said years ago, that flood victims in Kerala shouldn't receive help if they ate beef.

Delhi girl Anjali Arora is a social media influencer with 10.8M followers on social media. She has also done several music videos. She has worked in many Hindi and Punjabi music videos with big singers like Sucha Yaar, Karan Randhawa, Kaka, Akaal and Rahul Vaidya to name a few. The young social media sensation is known for her dance reels.

Delhi boy Shivam Sharma rose to fame with Splitsvilla 13. He is known for his shayaris and loud personality. Kangana made fun of him quite many times on the premiere night. He has also done shows like ‘Yaro ka Tashan’ and Elevator Pitch.

Siddharth Sharma has appeared in reality shows like Big F and Splitsvilla. He also co-produced a short film Piya Ho in 2014. He was also seen in singer Dhvani Bhanushali’s reprised version of ‘Leja Re’ music video. He also worked in digital shows under Ekta Kapoor’s banner. Siddharth is known for not bonding with his co-actors and being often insecure.

Payal Rohatgi has been a model and actress. She has done several films and also been a part of reality shows. Last seen in TV show Suryaputra Karn in 2016, Payal has done shows like Fear Factor India 2, Bigg Boss 2, Raaz Pichhle Janam Ka, Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout 1 and many more. She has been engaged to Indian wrestler Sangram Singh since 2011. Payal is known for her opinionated attitude and has courted many controversies. She has been blocked from Twitter for spreading fake news and fringe theories and later got unblocked. However, in 2020 her account was permanently suspended. Her political views also got her arrested. She was sent to judicial custody but got released on bail in December 2019.

Actress and model Poonam Pandey has courted several controversies. Controversy's favourite child, Poonam told in an interview with BT, “People know me as an actress, who is known for controversies and who indulges in bold acts. It is high time people get to know the real Poonam Pandey, who is also a human being and has a different side.” Claiming to strip naked if India won the world cup to getting arrested in Goa in November 2020 for a naked photoshoot on the beach, Poonam’s marital life also became headlines. He is the elder brother of former Congress secretary of Maharashtra, Shehzad Poonawalla. He was part of Bigg Boss 13, where he entered as a wild card contestant.

Sara Khan of Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai fame, too, has been finalised to participate in the show. It is reported that she is in quarantine. Sara has also courted many controversies. She made her debut in the non-fiction genre with Zara Nachke Dikha in 2008. While she has been a part of several reality shows, including Nach Baliye and Hans Baliye, her stay inside the Bigg Boss 4 house was her biggest stint in the non-fiction genre so far. What caught everyone's fancy was her wedding with Ali Merchant on national television. However, post the reality show, the marriage resulted in divorce after two months. It was also reported that they were paid to get married.

Ekta Kapoor confirmed Indian female wrestler Babita Kumari Phogat’s participation by sharing her promo. Having won several medals for the country as a wrestler, Babita entered the field of entertainment with dance reality show – Nach Baliye. Babita participated in Nach Baliye 2019 with her then fiancé Vivek Suhag. In June 2019, she announced her engagement to fellow wrestler Vivek Suhag and in November the couple tied the knot. The couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy, on January 11, 2021.

Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui is also a confirmed participant in the show. He was born in Gujarat to a Muslim family but they shifted base to Mumbai in 2007 after the 2002 Gujarat riots. He has been performing as a stand-up comedian. However, he was accused of making malicious jokes about Hindu deities and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah during an act in 2021. He was arrested by Madhya Pradesh Police in the midst of his comic act after a complaint by Eklavya Singh Gaur, son of BJP MLA Malini Gaur. However, his arrest was widely discussed and criticized for not respecting a comedian's freedom of speech. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court of India.
