Rahul Ganguly: I walked the ramp for many designers, but I always wanted to become an actor

Currently seen in the lead role of Krish in Brindabon Bilashini, Rahul Ganguly has steadily carved a space for himself in Bengali television. He is recognised for playing Aditya in Indrani and has also appeared in Geeta LL.B, Kar Kachhe Koi Moner Kotha and 1954: The Historical Crime. But his journey, he says, began long before the camera found him.

“I used to be a fashion model. I walked the ramp for many designers, but I always wanted to become an actor,” he says. Hailing from Serampore in Hooghly, Kolkata, he adds, “Since the age of 16, I have worked heart and soul to reach the city of dreams, Mumbai.”

Though he began with modelling and then moved to Bengali daily soaps, his aim has always been clear. “I wanted to survive and work in Hindi serials and movies. I have given a lot of auditions. I visited casting offices physically in the city too. They praised my auditions, but it didn’t work out for some reason or the other.”

The rejections haven’t been easy. “It is tough not to chase your dreams. I’ve been rejected even in Bengali serials for my height and a non-Bengali look,” he shares. “The Bengali industry gave me fame, but I’m not satisfied. I couldn’t show what I’m capable of. I am definitely shifting to Bombay in 2026. I’m ready to face the challenges and prove myself.”
