Reality show gives you a push, but sustaining a career is up to you: Parleen Gill
Singer Parleen Gill, known for participating in Indian Idol Season 3, says the music industry has become far more competitive over the years and sustaining a career requires constant effort.
“The music industry is going through a lot of changes and competition,” he says. “It’s definitely not easy to sustain. Every second person thinks they can be a singer, but it’s not as easy as it appears.”
Parleen believes visibility plays a key role today. “I was lying low for a few years, but my attitude and perception have changed. I now understand that ‘jo dikhta hai woh bikta hai.’ Visibility matters in today’s industry.”
He considers himself fortunate to have found stability through live performances. “I was lucky to get into the circuit of live shows. It is quite engaging and also financially sustainable,” he explains.
Talking about the importance of personal support, Parleen credits his wife Blondelle Gill for being a strong pillar in his life. “My wife Blondelle is the best person in my life. She helps me balance both my personal and professional life. The right support system is very important.”
Reflecting on reality shows and instant fame, he offers a practical perspective. “I often compare a reality show to a small boat,” he says. “It takes you from the shore and drops you a few kilometres into the sea. What you do after that is completely up to you. You can keep swimming forward and explore the ocean, or struggle and drown, or simply swim back to the shore where you started. The show gives you visibility and a push, but sustaining a career depends on your own perseverance and choices.”
