Sanjay Gagnani on his Kedarnath pilgrimage: This journey is designed to break your ego before it blesses your soul
Actor Sanjay Gagnani, best known for portraying Prithvi Malhotra in Kundali Bhagya, recently reflected on his spiritual journey to Kedarnath Temple, describing it as an experience that challenged him emotionally and spiritually far more than physically.
Known as one of India’s most demanding pilgrimages, the Kedarnath yatra tests devotees with its steep climb, high altitude, and unpredictable weather. However, Sanjay believes the real challenge lies elsewhere. “People think the toughest part is the altitude or the trek,” he says. “For me, the toughest part was surrendering.”
The actor was deeply moved by the spiritual significance of the shrine. “You’re walking towards one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, a place associated with the Pandavas and revived by Adi Shankaracharya. Standing at over 11,700 feet, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and the Mandakini river, you realise this isn’t just a temple—it’s a symbol of faith that has survived centuries,” he shares.
Sanjay admits there were moments when the trek pushed him to his limits. “There were times when exhaustion took over and the mountains reminded me how small I really am,” he recalls. “But somewhere between every difficult step and every breath, I understood that this journey is designed to break your ego before it blesses your soul.”
For him, the experience transformed into a lesson in humility and faith. “That’s the power of Kedarnath. It’s part of the Char Dham for a reason,” he says.
Summing up the essence of his pilgrimage, Sanjay adds, “Kedarnath doesn’t test your stamina. It tests your faith. Sometimes the mountain only moves when you stop trying to control everything and simply say, ‘Mahadev, now you take over.’”
Apart from Kundali Bhagya, Sanjay has been part of popular shows including Naagin 4, Naagin 6, Kumkum Bhagya, Ek Veer Ki Ardaas... Veera, Bairi Piya, and Hamari Devrani.
