Selling off his award worth Rs 400 to buy food for family to now living in a plush apartment; Sudesh Lehri’s inspiring success story

Born in Jalandhar and lived in Amritsar, stand-up comedian and actor Sudesh Lehri now lives in a fancy 4 bedroom luxurious house in the heart of Mumbai. But his journey hasn’t been easy. Having been part of many comedy shows, winning titles and awards, Sudesh is now a part of The Kapil Sharma Show family. He has been sharing glimpses of his life and here’s all you need to know how he faced several hardships to see and live the success today.

When he started working with his alcohol-addict father

He started working with his father and learnt to make gold. However, his father would earn Rs 100-200 and spend it on his drinking habits. In an interview Sudesh had once shared that there would just be one pair of slippers for the entire family.

Would have roti with salt and water

There was a time when they couldn’t afford vegetable and would just eat roti with salt and water.

Never been to school

Sudesh has never been to school. His family got him to work at a tea stall, where he would earn just one rupee. He worked out of helplessness and seen several low moments in his life.

When he would send his kids to borrow money

Owing to almost no income in family, Sudesh would often send his kids to borrow money from known people. Once he got invited to a place and was offered dry fruits, Sudesh grabbed them in his palm and got it for his kids, who stayed hungry throughout the day.

Hardships in life

Though Sudesh did many award shows in Punjab, financially he wasn’t strong. There was point when he had no savings and almost had to sell his house.

Selling off his award

At one point, Sudesh learnt that he would get felicitated at an awards ceremony. He asked the organiser the cost of the award. He gave his award in exchange of Rs 300-400 and then bought food for his family. He shared in an interview with IBN7.

Getting recognised and popular

Things turned around for him, when he participated in comedy show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge III. He stood third while Chandan Prabhakar stood second and Kapil Sharma took the winner’s trophy. He then went on to participate in several comedy shows like Dekh India Dekh, Comedy Circus, Comedy Classes. He won trophies too, which he has now proudly flaunted in his wall of fame in his plush house.

Living in luxury with family

Having tasted success, Sudesh Lehri is still humble and humorous at heart. He recently gave a tour of his 4 bedroom apartment and his good friend Krushna Abhishek compared it to a 7-star hotel. The comedian will now be seen in The Kapil Sharma Show.
