Shoaib Ibrahim reveals wife Dipika Kakar had aggressive liver cancer tumour with risk of recurrence; Opens up about details of her ongoing treatment

Shoaib Ibrahim shared a new vlog sharing details about wife Dipika Kakar’s on-going treatment and their recent meeting with the doctors. Shoaib revealed in the video that Dipika’s tumour was quite aggressive and has chances of recurrence. Next, the couple then headed out for Dipika’s follow-up appointment with her doctor. Reflecting on the emotional journey, Shoaib recalled how exactly a month ago, on June 3, he was anxiously waiting outside the operation theatre at Kokilaben Hospital while Dipika was undergoing surgery. “I can’t forget that date,” he said. “I was sitting by the window, extremely stressed, with my friends by my side for support, just waiting for an update from the doctors. Dipika and Shoaib head to meet the doctors for her follow-up. They had an appointment with the oncologist as well. He will guide them about the lineup of treatment going forward. Shoaib shared that earlier doctors had advised to start the treatment 6 weeks after surgery. (Photo: Instagram)

Dipika reveals she is anxious before meeting the doctors as she doesn’t know what the treatment is going to be. She says, “When you are about to undergo a treatment which you are going to experience for the first time after tumour surgery, it is natural to get nervous. I’m scared thinking about how my body will react to the treatment and what will be the side effects and will I be able to accept it as a new normal. I’m scared about it.” (Photo: Instagram)

After meeting the doctors, Shoaib and Dipika head home and reveal details of their follow-up. He shares that there is a new doctor who has come onboard for Dipika. He is Imran Sheikh, an Oncologist. He mentions that the doctor has said that surgery wise she is fine and she can start with normal walking as part of exercise. (Photo: Instagram)

Dipika has been advised to not do weight training or yoga as it requires stretching. For diet she has been asked to avoid oily and fatty stuff. She can have food from outside but it is preferable to eat home cooked food. Shoaib goes on to share next that they initially thought that after surgery the treatment will be done. But there is a long way to go. He says fortunately, there are no cancer cells in the body right now but the biopsy report showed that the tumour was much more risky than what it showed in the report. He says, “It was a stage 3 tumour and as per the medical term it was poorly differentiate. It was quite aggressive and has a higher risk of recurrence.” (Photo: Instagram)

Dipika added that as a precautionary measure both the doctors have suggested a treatment. Shoaib shared that when there is cancerous tumour in the liver, chemotherapy doesn’t work. When the liver is affected there are two treatments, Immunotherapy or Targeted therapy. In targeted therapy, the patient has to take oral medicines everyday at home, depending on the dosage and duration. On the other hand in immunotherapy, the medicines are given through IV drips. Every 21st day, the patient has to go to hospital to get the treatment. (Photo: Instagram)

Shoaib, who was last seen in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa revealed that Dipika’s doctor has suggested she start oral medicines as the body is cancer free and they want to take things slowly. God forbid if there are cancer cells found in the future, they will increase the dosage and give through IVs. Immunotherapy has many side-effects like ulcers, nausea, rashes, fatigue, lethargic. Shoaib informed fans that from next week onwards they will start the treatment and will go on a new journey. Dipika’s treatment will go on for at least two years and she has to take a lot of care during this time. Dipika can’t miss any medicines, scans or follow-up with the doctors. In the video, Shoaib and Dipika were also seen spending time with their son Ruhaan. They showed his adorable moments to the audience. In the video, Dipika was also seen taking consultation witb a dietitian. After visiting the doctors, Shoaib-Dipika went to buy red shoes for their son.
