What the letter reads

"The commission is seriously concerned about the increase in crimes against women and the video not only seems to promote violence against women but also shows the patriarchal mindset, which would send a very wrong message to the society through this video made by Faizal Siddiqui on Tik-Tok," NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma said in the letter to Tik Tok India.(Image: Instagram)

Faizal issues a statement

Later in the day, Faizal also wrote a long post reacting to the allegations made on him and released a statement on his Instagram account. Faizal said that his video was edited and people were passing judgements on watching the half video. He told his fans that he is sharing the complete video on his Instagram for people to understand that he was drinking water and splashed that on the girl, not acid. He further questioned, "Who drinks acid?"(Image: Instagram)

Speaking in his defence

Faizal said that he has often collaborated with the girl, who is a professional makeup artist and portrays her talent through her videos. He stated that she paints her face in all her videos to project her art. And, this "controversial" video was no exception. Faizal, further said, that her makeup, in no way, portrays the burn marks of an acid attack victim. He further said: "Making misinterpretations and assumptions out of context is not fair." He says that the video was uploaded a month ago and questioned 'Why is it being blown out of proportion now?'(Image: Instagram)

TikTok v/s YouTube rivalry

Faizal said that he is being targeted because of the TikTok v/s YouTube rivalry and are trying to capitalise on it. "I have taken the video down as I am not interested in promoting any kind of controversy.(Image: Instagram)

Issues apology

Faizal apologized to those who have been offended while watching this video. Faizal also wrote: "Again, it does not promote any kind of inhumanity. My intention was never to hurt anyone in any capacity. As a social media influencer, I realize my responsibility and apologize to anyone who was offended by the video," wrote Faizal. However, this post came after the National Commission of Women made an appeal to the DIG to take strict action against him and also asked TikTok to report and block his account. (Image: Instagram)
