Transgender model and dancer Deepthi Kalyani is one of the familiar faces for the Malayali audience. She became a sensation after becoming the cover girl of one of the leading lifestyle magazines. In the recent episode of the celebrity show, 'Red Carpet', Deepthi opened up about her real life struggles.

'They stripped me in public'
"Childhood was very traumatic. My feminine side was very evident and I had faced severe bullying then. People used to tease and abuse me. I even got stripped in public," Deepthi shared.

'My family threw me out of the house; had to sleep in Guruvayoor bus stand'
"My brother used to hit me when his friends questioned him about me. My family eventually threw me out of the house. I didn't have any place to go, so I slept in Guruvayoor bus stand with nothing but just a newspaper on the floor. I stayed there for weeks. That's when Sheethal (transgender activist) found me and took me along with her to Bangalore," she said.

'I was forced into prostitution for survival and to earn money for my sex reassignment surgery'
"I wanted to be a complete woman and sex reassignment surgery was the only way. I wanted to earn money for it, but no one would offer me any job. So, I had to beg and even get into prostitution to pay for my surgery. Now I am a complete woman," she added.

Deepthi made headlines by becoming the first transgender cover girl. The model shared that her life changed after this and her family has finally accepted her.

'My brother fell on my feet'
"After becoming the cover girl, my family accepted me as I am. My brother, who threw me out of our house, fell on my feet and cried. I then asked him. 'Can you accept me as your sister?'," Deepthi shared.

Movie career
Deepthi claims that she is currently content with her life saying all her struggles have paid off. The model-dancer has already played supporting roles in some movies and is now shooting for a multilingual movie featuring her in a lead role.
