Trans model Nadira Mehrin reacts to SC's verdict on same-sex marriage: The queer community is disappointed

The recent verdict by Supreme Court on same-sex marriage has left the queer community deeply disappointed. Despite significant progress in LGBTQ+ rights in recent years, the Apex Court's decision to not legalize same-sex marriage represents a setback for the community's fight for equality. Reacting to the same, Transmodel and Bigg Boss Malayalam contestant Nadira Mehrin has shared a video on her social media account. Here is everything the proud queer member has to say.

'It was a day of hope for queer people'

"Yes, it was a day of hope for all the queer people. After the struggles over the years, we believed that something positive would come out of the verdict. But we are not that happy. Though the honorable court had mentioned not marginalizing the community, there is nothing positive giving us hope for a dignified life," Nadira said.

'I do not have even 1% hope'

After the Supreme Court's verdict, Nadira said that the community doesn't have any hope for it. "It is sad that our rights are denied. Our government has already shared its views on this stating our culture and heritage. I don't even have 1% hope in it. I am also anxious about how queer people will be able to lead a respectful life too. Maybe once this government is down and a new ruling comes, there is room for some hope," she added.

'How is it unnatural?'

"I have one question for all who call same-sex love unnatural. How is it unnatural? Finding partners in the same sex is seen in most of the species and how is that 'unnatural' in humans? Whom I love and wish to lead a life with is my right," Nadira stated.

'I challenge you to medically 'cure' me'

Addressing the idea of medically treating the LGBTQ community and making them 'normal', Nadira challenges them to try it on her.

"I have been seeing people commenting that queer people can be 'treated' and 'cured', I challenge you to try it on me. We have studies that such therapies are just fake," she said.

'I am a queer Muslim'

Nadira also proudly states that she is a queer Muslim. Whether her religion accepts her or not, her connection with GOD is strong. 'I haven't taken any hormones inside the BB house for 3 months'

"The next set of comments is that our real faces will be out if we stop hormone intake. I accept many from the community might be taking it. But, I don't take any hormones. The proof is my life inside the Bigg Boss house. You may enquire with any of the contestants or the crew, I haven't taken a single hormone tablet when I was in the house," she added.

'Calling me my old name doesn't hurt me'

"Even now I can see people calling my old name. Don't think that will hurt me, no it doesn't. Well, it is through me that you all came to know that I had that name. I don't hide my initial identity. Even I have an old picture of me framed in my living area," Nadira shared.
