Exclusive: It's high time people should change mentality and open up about topics like women, bra and b****s, says Hemangi Kavi

Exclusive: It's high time people should change mentality and open up about topics like women, bra and b****s, says Hemangi Kavi

Popular Marathi actress and 'Mrs Mukhyamantri' fame Hemangi Kavi recently made headlines for slamming netizens for trolling her for not wearing a bra while shooting a video. In an exclusive chat with ETimes TV, Hemangi talked about slamming trolls, comments she received from netizens and her friends, and why she decided to open up about this topic on social media. Netizen's comments

Talking about sharing a chapati-making video with fans, Hemangi said, "Actually, I made a video on how to make round chapatis, and I got a few positive comments. Later, a woman commented on the video, and then after seeing that comment, four men got infuriated, and they commented. After seeing the whole scenario, a few of my friends from the industry asked me to remove the video, saying it is not looking right to see such comments. But I feel I have not done anything wrong, and it is a universal topic that people often ignore and don't open up about and I did not delete it". (PC - Instagram)

People have become judgemental

I feel people have now become more judgemental and utilize the social media platform to put negative and disturbing comments. I think there is nothing wrong with not wearing a bra at home or workplace or anywhere and who are they to tell me what I should wear or not? Why don't we have the same mentality when we see men? We often see the nipples of men, but we don't talk about it and do not even make a bigger issue then why is it only with women? I completely understand women are more cultural and more societal, but how is this acceptable? We should courageously open up about such topics that disturb us" (PC - Instagram)

People should change their mentality

I feel we have a kind of mentality where we think those who wear traditional clothes or cover their b***s are kind and sansakari women, and those who show off or don't cover are not sanskari. When will these kinds of mentality change? It is a broader topic to discuss, but why we don't discuss it openly and someone who discusses people points at them too. (PC - Instagram)

5/7

No support from the industry

I did not receive that much support from the industry. People are scared to come forward and discuss and support me. There are a few actresses and actors who supported me and agreed with my thoughts but otherwise, no support I have received from the industry. (PC - Instagram)

6/7

At least discussion is happening on such topic

I am glad that at least a discussion on this topic is happening. I have not done anything to grab the headlines. The thing is, I have been sharing my views on various subjects through social media, but people only caught this because I spoke about b***s, bra and women, and this is something we don't see and read everyday basis. (PC - Instagram)

7/7

Reply to social activists

A few social activists do not favour my thoughts. They are asking me that why I did not speak about it before when women were not allowed to wear short clothes in temples. I don't understand this mentality. (PC - Instagram)
