Dahi Handi declared sport in Maharashtra, CM Eknath Shinde announces Pro Govinda League

After a pandemic-induced gap of two years, Dahi Handi was celebrated across Maharashtra on Friday. Human pyramids of different levels were formed by govindas to reach and break the ‘handi’. And what came as a gift for govindas, CM Eknath Shinde declared dahi handi a sport and also announced a ‘Pro Govinda League’ in the coming year. He also mentioned how countries like Spain and China promote human pyramids as a sport and organise state-level events. Winners in the state will be offered prizes in the Pro League. While celebrations continued, over 70 govindas were injured this year in Mumbai. No untoward incident was reported.
