Highway crash: 35-vehicle pile-up on Bakersfield's 5 freeway claims two lives, nine injured

A major collision involving 35 vehicles, including 18 big rigs, occurred on the 5 Freeway in Bakersfield, resulting in two fatalities and nine injuries. Preliminary indications suggest that fog may have played a role in the collision, which led to a significant chain reaction. The crash created a complex and extensive accident scene, prompting the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to indefinitely close the southbound lanes. Authorities are currently conducting investigations and cleanup efforts at the accident site.
