Diplomacy has officially hit rock bottom. After U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent mocked Tehran’s leadership as being "in the dark" and claimed "complete control" over the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s Embassy in South Africa fired back with a shockingly personal attack. Calling Bessent an "idiot" and targeting President Trump with explicit slurs, the embassy claimed Washington "lost the war" on the battlefield and in cyberspace. As mediators scramble to keep peace talks alive, the online war of words is threatening to spill over into the real world.
