A drone strike hit the Sarsang oil field in Iraq’s Duhok province early Tuesday, igniting a fire and halting operations. Operated by US-based HKN Energy, the site sustained damage but reported no casualties. The Kurdistan Regional Government confirmed the incident as a terrorist act targeting vital economic infrastructure. This attack followed another drone strike less than 24 hours earlier at the Khurmala oil field in Erbil. Authorities have not yet linked the two incidents. The Sarsang field produces about 1% of Iraq’s daily oil output and is part of a joint project with expansion plans set for 2027.
